September 22nd, 2008Poker is a very popular game among gamblers and this has given rise to several variants of the game, each of them finding favor with a large number of players. This has also led to the rise of innumerable rules and regulations, some of them applicable to any poker game while others pertinent to particular game variations only. While there are so many types of poker games possible, the main games of poker are the draw, stud and community card games. Among them, the stud poker game has a particular set of rules which bring into play the situation where the twist round takes place.
The twist round is a special round of play which can either be played by replacing one regular round of play or by adding it to the rounds of play permissible in a game of stud poker. In a twist round, ach players are given the choice of rejecting one of the cads in his hand and replace it with another from the card deck. Although it looks familiar to drawing game, it differs from it by the fact that the replacement card received by the player is exactly the same that he rejects. So, if he rejects a hole card, he can replace it with another hole card and if he gives up a face up card, he can take another up card in its place.
The action of replacing the card follows a specific rule and the player who had opened betting in the previous round gets privilege of first action. He may either choose or not choose to exercise his option to replace any of his cards. Starting from him, all players who intends to replace discard one of their cards. Once everyone has discarded one card he wishes to replace, the alternative cards are dealt starting with the player sitting left to the dealer. In some cases, twist round requires players to post a bet in the pot to be eligible for a replacement card.
